Scallops a la Rouennaise

Whether you are visiting Rouen for a day during a trip to France, a weekend in Normandy or a business trip, the Tourist Office offers you the ideal program so that you don’t miss the must-see places in the Capital of Normandy.

A morning

between impressionist masters and Joan of Arc

Freshly arrived, either by train at the Right Bank SNCF station or by car, we suggest you make a first stop at the Musée des Beaux-Arts. It’s hard to survey all of the collections, but if you have to choose, we recommend the Depeaux Gallery and its collection of impressionist works by Claude Monet or Camille Pissaro. Note that the entrance to the Fine Arts Museum is free to access the permanent collections

Direction of the city center

After being able to admire these masterpieces, head for the pedestrian streets of Centre-ville de Rouen to Rue Saint-Romain. Running alongside the Cathedral, it has been home since 2015 to the Joan of Arc Historial. Housed in the archdiocese of theNotre Dame Cathedral, the Historial is the largest site of memory of Joan of Arc: a tribute brought to life by an impressive scenography relying on new technologies such as video mapping or holograms.

A lunch on the terrace

in the historic heart

After retracing the last hours of Jeanne d’Arc’s journey, enjoy the many squares with lively terraces in thehistorical heart of the Norman metropolis. The place de la Pucelle, the one of April 19, 1944, or near the place Saint-Marc and of course the Place du Vieux Marché with its half-timbered houses, the Sainte-Jeanne d’Arc church and the atmosphere of the covered market are sites not to be missed for an authentic lunch. Discover a wide choice of restaurants on this famous square known to all Rouen residents: French gastronomy, local specialties, world cuisine…

One afternoon

between Seine and panoramas

As the lunch break ends, you will discover another face of the city by walking to the quais de la Seine and its industrial architecture in a few minutes. A popular area for the people of Rouen, the quays of the Seine are perfect for a long walk between sheds rehabilitated as gyms, restaurants or cafes and the cruise boats and peniches that ply the Seine. After this stroll along the river, get some height: head to the panorama of the Colline Sainte-Catherine. In just a few minutes by car or public transportation, you’ll have access to a breathtaking view of the entire city of Rouen and its surroundings. Weather permitting, take a few steps down and sit on the grass for an unforgettable picnic with Rouen as a backdrop under a sunset.

Night of light on the cathedral

As soon as night falls, take a seat in front of the western facade of the Rouen Cathedral to admire the Cathedral of Light show (free). Illuminations will plunge you into a magical atmosphere for the pleasure of young and old. A show that will allow you to close your day in beauty. If you wish to extend your stay in Rouen, do not hesitate to sleep in one of the many accommodations in the Rouen metropolis: hotel, bed and breakfast, B&B, camping, motorhome parking area or youth hostel.
