Rouen at the Table!

The unmissable gastronomic event

Rouen à Table! celebrates gastronomy at the heart of France’s only UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.

This year, Rouen à Table will be all about music: orchestration, conducting with a baton – chefs will take to their pianos and harmonise their dishes with the finest musical scores, selected and remixed for the occasion with a contemporary twist or drawn from the classical repertoire.

Exceptional dinners

Cathedral Square

Rouen à Table! gets off to a flying start on Wednesday evening with a series of unique dinners, orchestrated by the talented chefs of the Club des Toques and Rouen’s new generation of chefs, in collaboration with hospitality and catering training colleges. Each evening, menus inspired by the greatest classics of French and international music, jazz standards and classical compositions will be served to guests. A programme combining music and fine dining, where the inspiration behind each dish will be revealed as the courses unfold, hosted by Bruno Bertheuil.

The teacher, food writer and author will weave a genuine dialogue between gastronomy and music, enriching the experience through a blend of flavours, stories and musical emotions.

Variety show

Wednesday 7 October

To kick things off, students from the IFA Marcel Sauvage will serve a cocktail – with* or without alcohol – to set a colourful tone for the evening. The evening continues with a culinary journey where each course is inspired by a musical work: at the helm are the following chefs: Philippe Molinié, head chef at Restaurant Philippe, followed by Thierry Demoget, head chef at Restaurant Les Capucines. The second starter will be prepared by Hakim Benallal of Le 6ème Sens, whilst Benoît David, head chef at L’Hermitage, will be preparing a duck dish. Local food artisans will also be adding their own touch to this gourmet symphony: Fromagerie Jollit and Ma Boulangerie, run by Christophe Cressent, a Meilleur Ouvrier de France and patron of this year’s event. For dessert, Watcharapong Sorndee, head chef at Gill Côté Bistro, will be at the helm. The food and wine pairings will be presented byIFA Marcel Sauvage.

The evening will be hosted by the vocal trio Garçons s’il vous plaît. True a cappella ‘vocal waiters’, this trio wanders amongst the audience carrying a slate of songs on request. They move amongst the guests, singing for one or more members of the audience as they draw on the classic repertoire of French and international songs.

Jazz Evening

Thursday 8 October

The Georges Baptiste School will kick things off with a cocktail worthy of those served at the most renowned jazz clubs. Benoît David of L’Hermitage will then lay the foundation for this feast with a refined amuse-bouche, before handing over to Éric Autin, head chef at L’Incontournable, for the first starter. Lynda Jumel, head chef at the restaurant Lé Là, will then transport guests to the enchanting and colourful flavours of her native Réunion for a hot starter. Chef Thomas Lemelle of Rotomagus will delight the taste buds with a superb cut of meat. Partner artisans will round off this gastronomic programme: Fromagerie Jollit and Ma Boulangerie, run by Christophe Cressent, Meilleur Ouvrier de France and patron of Rouen à Table! To round off the evening, Hakim Benallal (Le 6ème Sens) will serve a dessert. The food and wine pairings will be presented by the Georges Baptiste School.

Swing Bakery is a quintet from Rouen comprising drums, double bass, clarinet/vocals and guitar. Their repertoire consists of swing jazz standards as well as more recent tracks (pop, rock), all with a swing feel.

Classical music evening

Friday 9 October

For this third event, Rouen’s new generation of chefs is once again joining forces with the organisers! Two exceptional establishments – Odas* and Épicurius – are joining forces to create a unique dinner that will combine creativity, boldness and exceptional expertise. The Institut Mesnières will kick off the evening with a cocktail reception. This will be followed by a sequence of eight dishes, with classical music subtly enhancing the dining experience. Suzanne Da Silva, head chef at L’Odas*, will be creating several dishes, whilst L’Épicurius’s chef, Quentin Le Deunff, is keeping his two creations under wraps for now. To accompany the meal, Ma Boulangerie, run by Christophe Cressent, a Meilleur Ouvrier de France, will contribute its signature touch with its iconic bread. The food and wine pairings will be presented by the Institut Mesnières.

The ‘Millénaires’ musical programme by La Maison Illuminée, under the artistic direction of Oswald Sallaberger, will showcase 1,000 years of classical music and swing, featuring mezzo-soprano Albane Carrère accompanied by a harp and a string quartet.

International chefs

UNESCO Creative Cities Network

During this festive weekend, some of the city’s hotels will open their kitchens to four-handed dining events where creativity will know no bounds. The hotels’ chefs will welcome chefs from UNESCO Creative Cities. Brazil, China, the USA, Lebanon and Thailand will all be taking part. These destinations from around the world are renowned for the excellence and diversity of their culinary traditions. In Rouen, these culinary encounters will give rise to gastronomic dialogues between two chefs and two culinary worlds, blending local traditions with inspiration from further afield. Together, they will combine local produce with creativity, the expertise of the past with contemporary daring, to create unique menus, each telling a story and inviting guests on a journey for the senses.
