Many French people are drawn to this activity, which combines relaxation with the great outdoors: nearly 2.5 million people take part in recreational fishing. In fact, 41 per cent of French people have fished in freshwater, whilst 30 per cent have tried their hand at sea fishing, whether by rod or from the shore. A quarter of them have even tried both. It just goes to show, it’s never too late to give it a go.

Sometimes it takes very little to find a bit of peace of mind: casting your line at the water’s edge, listening to the rustling of the reeds, watching the sky’s reflection on the calm surface of a pond and waiting, patiently, for ‘a bite’. Whether as a couple, with family or with fellow anglers, Normandy offers wonderful opportunities to slow down and make the most of the present moment.

a stroll along the water’s edge

A former sandpit converted into a pleasant lake, Elbeuf-sur-Seine is ideal for both a family stroll and a spot of fishing. Predator anglers can hunt for pike and zander in a peaceful setting that’s perfect for a leisurely stroll. To fish, simply purchase a fishing licence from the ticket machine near the town hall. After a few casts, why not extend your outing by taking the ferry to the right bank of the Seine, heading towards Duclair? A lovely way to combine exploration and relaxation.

Anneville-Ambourville

a natural paradise for enthusiasts

In theAnneville-Ambourville area, former gravel pits have given way to habitats that are particularly favourable to aquatic wildlife. Here, anglers appreciate the richness of the environment, which is ideal for catching pike, perch and a variety of whitefish. The riverbanks offer prime vantage points over unspoilt countryside, where time seems to stand still. To access these fishing spots, you must hold an APAA permit.

The Moulin Bleu Trail

The call of the salmonids

In Neufchâtel-en-Bray, the Moulin Bleu stretch will appeal to sport fishing enthusiasts. Stretching 260 metres, this section is specifically dedicated to salmonid fishing. The murmur of the flowing water, the coolness of the shaded banks and the quiet excitement that precedes every bite combine to create an authentic experience here. Access to the stretch requires a valid fishing licence.

The Bedanne Leisure Centre: a season not to be missed

At the Bedanne Water Sports and Leisure Centre, fishing is subject to specific regulations designed to help preserve the quality of the site. It is permitted only from 15 November to 31 January on the centre’s lake.

Opening hours are as follows:

November: 10.00 am to 6.00 pm
December and January: 10.00 am to 5.00 pm
