Description
- Sound and light show
- Claude Monet’s studio
- Normandy Impressionist Festival
Each summer, Rouen Cathedral comes alive with a spectacular display of colour during its sound and light shows, which have become an iconic event of Normandy’s cultural heritage.
As night falls, two immersive creations celebrate the Impressionist movement: Floraison sauvage (Wild Bloom), a spectacular fresco illustrating the dialogue between Japan and Impressionism, and Première Impression (First Impression), a dreamlike work inspired by major artistic movements, from Impressionism to Pop Art.
We invite you to experience this moment from an exceptional, usually inaccessible location, steeped in history and emotion: the former studio of Claude Monet, where the Impressionist master painted part of his famous Cathedrals series. From this privileged elevated viewpoint overlooking the forecourt, you will enjoy a striking, panoramic view of the façade, enhanced by luminous projections. This rare experience is offered during a very limited number of exclusive evenings, on Fridays and Saturdays from June to September. A confidential programme that enhances the precious and intimate nature of this timeless interlude.
To complete the experience, a glass of champagne Doré-Léguillette Cuvée Signature, selected by the Arôme et Passions wine cellar, will be served, accompanied by the renowned salted caramel tart, a signature pastry from Maison Vatelier.
An exceptional evening blending heritage, art, and gastronomy, designed for those seeking the emotion of beauty in its rarest form.
Floraison sauvage (Wild Bloom) – NEW
Japanese prints profoundly influenced the Impressionists, opening up new freedoms in composition, framing, and the use of empty space. This dialogue between Japan and Impressionism is now reborn on the façade of Rouen Cathedral, immortalised by Claude Monet.
Première impression (First Impression)
This original creation immerses you in the world of Impressionism: boats, water lilies, the Giverny bridge, and the surf breaking against the cliffs so beloved by the painters of the time… all unfold in a luminous sequence of scenes. The cathedral shifts from shadow to light, dissolving into water reflections that are sometimes transparent, sometimes multicoloured, gradually coming to life and offering new impressions with each scene. From Impressionism to Pointillism, the image continues its journey. In a wash of digital snow, a young woman appears on a swing, as if escaped from Renoir’s film A Day in the Country. Cinema then emerges, heralding the arrival of the digital arts.
