Spring 2024 will see the opening in Rouen of the Cité Immersive Viking, located in the new Hangar 105 on the banks of the Seine, the mythical river sailed up by longships over a thousand years ago. Following incessant Viking invasions, Rollon, the region’s Viking warrior leader, allied himself with the Frankish king, Charles the Simple, and was baptized in the cathedral in 911. He became Count of Rouen, paving the way for the creation of the Duchy of Normandy.

Under the scientific direction of a historian specializing in Scandinavian history, the Viking Immersive City showcases Scandinavian culture, craftsmanship, science, mythology and history.

An immersive experience

An innovative experience designed to bring French history and its cultural wealth to a wider public, the Cité Immersive is divided into five themed rooms. They correspond to five eras of the Norman Viking era, which visitors are invited to experience to the full. Thanks to cutting-edge technologies, monumental historical settings, 360° video projections and 3D spatialized sound immersions, visitors are taken back in time to relive the fascinating story of the Vikings, who were the driving force behind the creation of Normandy.

Throughout the year, a rich cultural program will enliven the life of the Cité, encouraging the public to familiarize themselves with a particularly rich part of French history. The immersive Viking Cité promises to become the new must-see destination on Rouen’s left bank of the Seine.
