Since 7 November 2021, Rouen has been shining on the international stage thanks to its entry into the prestigious Réseau des Villes créatives de l’UNESCO in the field of gastronomy. A distinction unique in France, the fruit of the town’s strong and concrete commitment to promoting its culinary heritage, its local producers, and its gourmet art of living.
Attributed on the basis of an ambitious 2022-2026 action plan, this network pays tribute to the policy led by the City of Rouen around three main areas:
This initiative is part of a wider drive to make gastronomy a lever for sustainable cultural, economic and tourism development.
This is the backdrop to Rouen à Table !, a major popular event celebrating gastronomy in all its forms. For its first edition in 2024, the event brought together thousands of visitors for tastings, culinary events and meetings with local artisans, producers, restaurateurs and chefs.</It is the perfect embodiment of the spirit of the UNESCO label: gastronomy that is rooted in its region but open to the world, inventive, inclusive and forward-looking. Once again this year, Rouen à Table ! is cooking up a host of events across the city, from 8 to 12 October 2025.
Important pillar of this dynamic: the Club des Toques Rouennaises, a collective of passionate chefs who œuve; transmission, œinnovation and œhighlight regional products. These chefs are the true ambassadors of Norman know-how, combining respect for tradition with culinary creativity. Through their collaborations, their commitment to taste education and their participation in events such as Rouen Table ! or the Grande Tablée des Toques, they play a full part in the city’s gastronomic reputation.
Rouen and its region can draw on exceptional agricultural wealth. The fertile soils of the Seine valley, high-quality dairy products, lush orchards, not to mention nearby seafood, offer a palette of unique ingredients. Character cheeses such as Neufchâtel, apples and cider, crème fraîche, and Duclair duck are just some of the treasures that have made Normandy’s gastronomy famous and fuelled the inspiration of local chefs.
