Matmut Contemporary Art Centre - Daniel Havis

In the heart of a wooded estate near Rouen, the Centre d’art contemporain Matmut – Daniel Havis offers an immersion in current artistic creation. Housed in a 19th-century château surrounded by a sculpture park, this cultural venue hosts contemporary art exhibitions and works to be discovered in the open air throughout the year.

A cultural commitment to creativity

Just 20 minutes from Rouen, the Centre d’art contemporain de la Matmut – Daniel Havis offers 4 exhibitions a year by national and international artists.

With the aim of making art and culture accessible to the widest possible audience, the Matmut Group has for several years been developing a dynamic policy of cultural action, thanks in particular to the art centre. It supports and seeks to promote artists and structures in their creative process and distribution.

Each exhibition, which lasts around three months, is accompanied by a publication and a cultural programme (guided tours, workshops for children and schoolchildren, partnerships with various organisations, events) aimed at young and old alike.

A château dedicated to contemporary art

Inside a 19th-century neo-Louis XIII château, the Centre d’art contemporain – Daniel Havis invites you to discover the history and architecture of this place. Outside, you can appreciate the work of architect Lucien Lefort, the ironwork of Ferdinand Marrou or the stonework of Edmond Bonet. The neo-classical château proudly bears on its pediment the motto “Omnia pro arte” (Everything for art) inscribed by its builder Gaston Le Breton and now more alive than ever thanks to the Matmut Group.

The château is set in 6 hectares of parkland with different worlds that change with the seasons: the Japanese garden, the garden of the five rooms, the arboretum and the Italian Renaissance rose garden, all populated by monumental sculptures by famous artists (Peter Briggs, Norman Dilworth, Quentin Garel, Vera Molnar, etc.).
