Domaniale Verte

Drive north of the city of Rouen to discover the Green State Forest. Formerly owned by the Frankish kings, Charles VI bequeathed this forest to the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Ouen, which managed it until 1791.

The Verte state forest is located 6 km from the center of Rouen. It is a privileged site for local residents wishing to walk or do sports activities such as mountain biking or running. Labeled “Forêt d’Exception ®” , it has several sites of ecological interest and protected plant and animal species such as the Mountain Fern or the Spotted Salamander.

And to involve the little ones, the Metropole Rouen Normandie provides an educational booklet with fun activities around each work.

The state forest of Roumare

and its animal park

West of downtown Rouen, discover the Roumare forest. Located notably on the communes of Canteleu and Val de la Haye, this forest near Rouen hosts a free animal park. The observation park is spread over 26 hectares. Ideal for a family walk, children really enjoy this natural site. They can observe wild boars, deer, roe deer and fallow deer.

Labeled“Forêt d’Exception®”, the Roumare forest has remarkable trees, ponds and a diverse flora. Display panels allow young and old to learn more about the forest ecosystem and its inhabitants such as the Arboretum of Petit-Charme.

Over 306 hectares, this forest is adjacent to that of La Londe – Rouvray. Originating from the same massif, they have both undergone significant reconstitution. A stone’s throw from the Zénith de Rouen, the forest is accessible by public transportation. Formerly owned by the state, it is now a departmental forest.

Located in the commune of Saint-Etienne du Rouvray, it offers an ideal setting for walkers wishing to go green.

of La Londe-Rouvray

Neighboring the forest of Madrillet, it is located on land in the commune of Saint-Etienne du Rouvray.Southwest of Rouen, the flora is diverse with oaks, beeches and Scots pine.

Walkers will also be able to discover natural sites with very varied ecosystems such as ponds, limestone lawns or caves.

This vast forest offers a space for relaxation and recreation. City dwellers appreciate this natural space at the gates of Rouen. It is labeled “Forêt d’Exception®” in recognition of its richness.

Roule wood

East of Rouen, discover le bois du Roule. Located on the commune of Darnétal, it presents varied forest species such as oaks, birches, maples, cherry trees but also many remarkable trees especially by their shape.

Aside from the flora, the fauna is well represented with many deer and bird species. Near this natural area, find the House of Forests of Darnétal and its many animations.

Throughout the year, children will be able to attend free workshops, discoveries of the forest, guided tours on the theme of nature or manual activities.

There are several Maisons des Forêts near Rouen:in Saint-Etienne du Rouvray, Darnétal and Orival.They are places of discovery and awareness of nature open for school audiences but also the general public as part of its program of activities.
